I’m Phyllis Shaw, MS, MSW, LCSWA, an Intensive In-Home (IIH) Team Lead and Outpatient Therapist at Greater Vision Counseling & Consulting. I enjoy helping children, adolescents, and families work through challenges, recognize their strengths, and find healthier ways to move forward.
I bring over 20 years of experience in social work and human services across North Carolina and Georgia, serving children, families, and adults. My work has included intensive family preservation, adult protective services and guardianship, community-based services, care management, behavioral health, medical social work, and family support. My prior experience as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) also shapes my whole-person approach to care.
I work with children, adolescents, and families facing concerns such as anxiety, difficulty managing emotions, behavior challenges, family conflict, and the stress of placement changes. When I work with a family, I try to understand not only what is happening, but what may be contributing to it. I believe people have strengths within them, even during difficult seasons, and part of my role is helping them recognize and use those strengths.
My style is compassionate, practical, and person-centered. I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Thinking to help clients build coping skills, improve communication, strengthen relationships, and make changes that are realistic for their lives. Therapy is not about being judged or having someone tell you what to do. It is an opportunity to talk openly, gain insight, learn new skills, and work toward meaningful change.
I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) from Fayetteville State University, a Master of Science (MS) in Human Services from Capella University, and a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Methodist University.
